Condenser Instrument Microphones |
The Audix range of instrument condenser
microphones utilize two types of technology: Externally powered (DC
powered); and pre-polarized (electret). A Pre-polarized condenser, also known as an electret condenser, utilizes a ferroelectric material that has been permanently electrically charged or polarized. The name comes from electrostatic and magnet; a static charge is embedded in an electret by alignment of the static charges in the material, much like the way a magnet is made by aligning the magnetic domains in a piece of iron. Electret condenser technology has provided Audix the means to develop miniature condenser microphones. The models in this section that feature this technology are: MicroD, MicroHD, f90, ADX20iP, ADX10FLP, ADX51, f9, UEM81C, UEM81S, M44. Some models are compatible with the RAD360 Wireless System and are ideal for instruments because they are small, lightweight, easy to place and sound excellent. The balance of the models in this section are externally powered condensers. Historically, these types of condenser microphones were restricted to professional studio and broadcast applications. However, there has been a shift over the past twenty years towards higher demand and more affordability, making it much more feasible to working artists and engineers to implement these microphones on to a stage or into a studio. All of the Audix instrument condenser microphones require phantom power voltage except for UEM81C and UEM81S which are battery powered. Artists on tour with Audix instrument condensers include Stanton Moore, Tower of Power, Denver and The Mile High Orchestra, Naveen (flautist for AJ Ramen) and Thomas Lang, to name a few. |
The ADX10FLP
is characterized with a uniformly controlled cardioid polar pattern,
helping to isolate the area or section being miked from other
instruments or vocals on stage. With a smooth and accurate frequency
range of 50 Hz - 18 kHz, the ADX10FLP is lightweight, low profile and
will provide natural sound with exceptional transientresponse. The ADX10FL P, specifically for use with a flute, includes a clip that attaches to the headstock of a flute, an 8’ cable terminating to a mini XLRf connector and a phantom power adapter (APS 911). Other model versions are available as well, one of which is the ADX10FL; for use with the Audix RAD360 wireless system which includes a flute clip, 3’ attached cable terminating to a miniXLRf connector. Manufactured to high standards and tight tolerances, the ADX10FLP features a modular threaded capsule, machined brass body with matte black finish, high quality shielded microphone cable and a variety of optional accessories.. |

The ADX20iP
is applicable for professional stage and studio applications. This mic
is primarily used for miking most reed and brass instruments. The ADX20iP has a uniformly controlled cardioid polar pattern, which provides excellent isolation and feedback control on stage with natural sound reproduction at very close distances. The ADX20iP is lightweight, compact and simple to use. Included with the ADX20iP is a gooseneck clip with spring tension for easy mounting to the bell of an instrument. The ADX20i requires phantom power of 9-52 V.. |
Specifications ADX20iP Type Pre-polarized Condenser Polar Pattern Cardioid, Hypercardioid Frequency Response 40Hz - 20kHz Impedance 250 Ohms Sensitivity 6 mV/Pa @1k (C) / 5.6 mV/Pa @1k (HC) Applications - Saxophone - Trombone, trumpet - Room ambience, recording - Accordion |

The f90
is a cost effective, miniature clip-on condenser microphone for drum
and percussion applications. The f90 is intended for rehearsal bands,
small clubs, schools and Houses of Worship. The f90 has a uniformly controlled cardioid polar pattern and provides a rich, full sound at distances of 3”-4” off the drum head. The f90 is lightweight, compact and simple to use. The flexible gooseneck, paired with the 90-degree angle of the microphone head, allows the f90 to be positioned directly over the sound source. The f90 operates on phantom voltage of 9-52 V. |
Specifications f90 Type Condenser Polar Pattern Cardioid Frequency Response 50Hz - 18kHz Impedance 250 Ohms Sensitivity 8.8 mV/Pa @1k Applications - Drums - Brass - Cymbals, percussion toys |
|
The MicroD
is primarily a drum and percussion instrument microphone for
professional stage and studio applications. The MicroD has a uniformly
controlled hypercardioid polar pattern and a smooth, accurate response
in its frequency range. This mic is lightweight, compact and simple to use. The MicroD is housed in an aluminum ring and isolated by means of a rubber shock mount system. The MicroD attaches easily and firmly to a standard drum rim utlizing the patented DVICE rim mount system. |
Specifications MicroD Type Pre-polarized Condenser Polar Pattern Hypercardioid Frequency Response 40Hz - 20kHz Impedance 250 Ohms Sensitivity 5.6 mV/Pa @1k Applications - Drums - Cymbals, percussion toys (using the Dflex Micro clip) |

The M44
is a part of The Micros Series of miniaturized condenser microphones
with a fully integrated preamp and detachable cable. Unlike the
other mics in this series, the M44microphone is designed for close
miking instruments with high SPLs such as drums, percussion
instruments, brass and reeds. The M44 comes equipped with a cardioid or hypercardioid capsule. A variety of clips and accessories are available for drum and percussion mounting. The M44 ships with a 25’cable with mini-XLRf - XLRm connectors, a lug mount clip for hand percussion instruments, a DVICE drum rim mount attachment with shockmount ring, an external foam windscreen, and a zippered carrying pouch. |
Specifications M44 Type Condenser Polar Pattern Cardioid, Hypercardioid Frequency Response 50Hz - 19kHz Impedance 150 Ohms Sensitivity @1k 3 mV/Pa Applications - High SPL instruments - High SPL sound effects - Cymbals - under or over - Percussion - Brass |

This f9
is suited for instruments requiring detailed reproduction in mid-high
and extended high end frequency ranges in live and studio applications.
A wide cardioid pick-up pattern paired with high sensitivity, allows
close, overhead and distance miking. With its low impedance and balanced output, the f9 has interference-free performance. This mic operates on phantom power of 12-48 V. |
